Spiritual Development Programme (SDP)

Since 2019, MCE has been running a highly effective training programme that is vital for the development of Madrasah teachers: The Spiritual Development Programme (SDP)

The SDP combines modern interactive teaching methods with classical Islamic scholarship to offer Madrasah teachers practical advice on how they can enhance their spirituality and have a more positive impact on the children they teach.

The course is replete with practical tips, relatable examples, inspirational stories from the lives of pious individuals, and deliberations on carefully selected verses of the Qur’an and traditions.

Watch a short video here for more information:

To date, nine SDPs have been conducted:

The course is usually conducted over one weekend and covers the following topics:

Day 1: Foundations (8 hours)

– What exactly is spiritual development?
– Knowledge and teaching and how they relate to spiritual development
– The soul and its major faculties
– Qur’anic application: How did the Prophets manage these faculties?

Day 2: Five Step Practical Programme for Spiritual Development (8 hours)

– Spiritual wakefulness (yaqẓah)
– Step 1: Repentance (tawbah)
– Step 2: Self-conditioning (mushāraṭah)
– Step 3: Monitoring of actions (murāqabah)
– Step 4: Accounting of actions (muḥāsabah)
– Step 5: Deterring oneself (muʿāqabah)

There is no charge for the training. Participants only pay for the Manual (£5). The Workbook is provided free of charge.

“This manual and its accompanying workbook help the reader advance on the spiritual course step by step. All practical tips in the manual are bolstered by convincing theoretical explanations and supported by helpful examples. I am sure all those who are eager to move further on the path of spirituality will benefit from this work.”

Shaykh Mohammad Saeed Bahmanpour

“This manual and workbook are blessings which if utilised properly can facilitate generations of spiritual prosperity. The primary aim of the books is to enable madrasah teachers to communicate religion in a state of inner purity and spirituality. The works can also serve as guides for others who aspire to transform themselves. Every house should try to procure them and apply their principles.”

Shaykh Muhammad Khalfan
